Stuff of the Month! - March

Book: Robopocalypse by Daniel Wilson.  Essentially a connected series of short stories from which we learn the course and conduct of the robot rebellion and man's response.  A well reasoned look by a robotics expert at what would occur when an A.I. with an ability to reason and learn develops a will to destroy, with decent storytelling and characters.

Theater: Eden Troupe presents A Midsummer Night's Dream by Will Shakespeare.  Well played and beautiful art direction.  Still not certain what to think of ending with an on-stage proposal, but it certainly was an example of seizing an opportunity to make an unforgettable moment.

Movie (home viewing): Warrior.  This movie delivers beautifully choreographed and very intense MMA fighting that is as fresh as the pugilism in Rocky must have been when it came out, and would be worth watching for that alone.  But where it really makes its impact and turns into a must-see film is in the family story as Nick Nolte's penitent character struggles to win back something of the family he now knows he himself destroyed.

Music: 2012 Grammy Nominees by various artists.  All in all, this really was a lackluster year, with nothing delivering the power and repeatability of, e.g., Viva la Vida.

Household project: Sanding the lips on imperfectly aligned leaves for a table, then refinishing.  Should be fun to see how the surface uniformity turns out, as getting that even is traditionally the largest difficulty in finishing tables.  To say nothing of just part of a table.

Low point: Must have been a good month.  The lowest point in my notes (Grammy album aside) is The Smurfs, which was rather funny, but which does make me want to avoid going back and watching the old cartoons lest it be ruined for me.

100 Years of Cherry Blossoms

This year is the centennial celebration of the Cherry Blossom Festival.  We have enjoyed it for many years, so we would not miss this one.  Edmund was such fun.

Bench Giggles

Jonathan and Edmund were working out this evening.  For Edmund, it is mostly building up truck muscles, for Jonathan, arms, shoulders, etc.

Movie Critics

Meg came to play today.  She brought Wallace & Gromit: A Matter of Loaf and Death and VeggieTales: Sheerluck Holmes and the Golden Ruler to share.

These two movie critics give Wallace & Gromit two thumbs up, but Sheerluck only gets one because half the team had to go for for a nap.

Empty

New math equation:
empty baskets + empty bins + empty cups + empty bowls + empty fire station = happy boy

There is nothing like getting all your toys out of their basket and then pulling the basket over on yourself.

Isn't it amazing how the most mundane things make a child happy.  Edmund found Jonathan's red shirt and tugged it around with him for a bit this morning.
Later he found Jonathan's shorts and they made a great hiding spot.  He is reaching into and up to everything.  We are going to need to become much better at putting everything away.  We will also have to move all the trashcans out of reach.  He tried to sort through one of them before I stopped him.  I think I am going to end up feeling like Calvin's mom, and always telling him he may not do things.  Poor me.

Restless Sleeper

Edmund is a restless sleeper.  He never liked to be wrapped up as a little baby.  He is not keen on is now.  Swaddling was just not an option.  We tried, since it is in vogue now.  We gave it up right away.  I love how he sleeps with arms and legs all out.  Somehow, he seems to take up more room in our bed then one of us does.  He is also rather a wriggler in bed.  If he does snooze with us then we usually wake to a foot pummeling.  I keep reminding myself that people pay for massages and Edmund provides them for free to his parents.

Birthday Present to Mother

Edmund gave me the best birthday present any mother could want.  He slept in for quite a bit of the morning.  Suddenly, I felt rested.  Then he took a great nap in the afternoon, and went to bed early.  It was so early that he is still asleep in his clothing at nearly midnight.  Thank you, My Handsome Man!

Playing Godfather

Edmund has a set of stacking animals.  He seems particularly attached the orange horse head.  You can see it in his left hand.  He also loves his fire station.  The fire station has a bed for the off-duty fire fighters.  Guess where the horse head ended up today?

Laughing

Edmund has such a cheerful disposition and a marvelous laugh.  We enjoy him so much!

Stuck in the Station

This is one of the problems of learning to crawl backwards first.

Cold Day

Today was very cold.  We are all bundled up against the chill.  Edmund's room tends to stay warm since it gets sun on two sides.  Plus, how can you be cold with such a sunny smile?

Long Sleep

Edmund feel asleep this afternoon and is still sleeping now, at almost midnight.  He is still in his clothes, but I don't have the heart to wake him.  Or maybe it is that I just want to go to bed myself....
